PAID Career Changer into Cybersecurity Opportunity
Good morning,
If you’ve been thinking about moving into cybersecurity but don’t want to start from scratch, this opportunity may be worth your attention.
The UK Government has launched TechTrack — a bespoke digital upskilling apprenticeship programme designed to help professionals transition into high-demand tech roles.
One of the most exciting pathways currently available is:
🔐 Cyber Security Technologist (Level 4 Apprenticeship)
This programme is designed for individuals who are already established in their careers and want to pivot into cybersecurity through a structured, paid route.
💡 What is TechTrack?
TechTrack is part of the Government’s wider digital transformation strategy to modernise public services and build the digital skills needed across the Civil Service.
Rather than expecting people to return to university or start again at entry level, TechTrack allows candidates to retrain while working.
You’ll gain hands-on experience, professional training, and recognised qualifications while earning a salary from day one.
🚀 Why this stands out
This is not a generic apprenticeship.
It has been built specifically to help career changers and upskillers transition into digital roles that government urgently needs.
As a TechTrack apprentice, you will:
• Start at Higher Executive Officer (HEO) level
• Earn a salary from day one
• Receive the same employment rights as staff (holiday pay, sick leave, etc.)
• Spend at least 6 working hours a week training or studying
• Learn directly from experienced professionals
• Work on projects that impact millions of UK citizens
After two years, candidates become eligible to apply for Senior Executive Officer (SEO) roles.
🛡️ What you’ll learn in the Cyber pathway
The Cyber Security Technologist programme is designed to give you practical skills in:
• Detecting and responding to cyber threats
• Monitoring systems and incidents
• Conducting cyber risk assessments
• Learning common cyber attack methods
• Protecting data, systems and people
• Supporting a strong security culture within organisations
You’ll be learning skills that are highly relevant across both public and private sectors.
👀 Who is this for?
This pathway is ideal for:
• Professionals looking for a career change into tech
• People with some IT experience who want to specialise in cyber
• Individuals who enjoy problem solving and continuous learning
• Those who want meaningful work protecting public services
Minimum requirements include:
• UK residency for at least 5 years
• Ability to pass security checks
• A Level 3 IT qualification or at least 1 year of IT-related work experience
📌 Why I’m sharing this
Many people assume getting into cybersecurity means:
• Starting again
• Going back to university
• Taking a pay cut
• Needing years of coding experience
That isn’t always true.
Programmes like TechTrack show there are increasingly structured pathways for experienced professionals to pivot into tech strategically.
Sometimes the smartest move isn’t starting over.
It’s leveraging what you already know and retraining in the right direction.
They’re also hosting an information session to help you with your application on the 27th of April
Kind regards
